- Summary of Stamp 1G Conditions:
Big news for families in Ireland! The Ministers for Justice and Enterprise, Trade, and Employment have just announced a major update that will benefit spouses and partners of various Employment Permit holders. Here’s the scoop:
What’s Changing?
If you’re the spouse or partner of someone with a General Employment Permit (GEP) or an Intra-Corporate Transferee (ICT) Irish Employment Permit, and you’ve been granted family reunification under the Non-EEA Family Reunification Policy, you’ll now be registered on a Stamp 1G permission instead of a Stamp 3. This means you can now work in Ireland without needing to get a separate Employment Permit!
Additionally, spouses and partners of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders and Researchers on a Hosting Agreement currently holding a Stamp 3 can now switch to a Stamp 1G.
For Those Already in Ireland
If you’re already living in Ireland with a Stamp 3 on your Irish Residence Permit (IRP), your permission to stay has been automatically updated to the same conditions as a Stamp 1G. No need to visit the Registration Office or your local immigration office to make this change.
Your new Stamp 1G IRP card will be issued when you renew your current permission upon its expiry. In the meantime, you can start working immediately by showing prospective employers a special letter along with your current IRP card. You can download the Stamp 3 to Stamp 1G Employment Notice here
Who’s Eligible?
To qualify for this change, you need to meet these criteria as of May 15, 2024:
- Be the spouse or partner of a GEP, ICT permit holder, CSEP holder, or Researcher on a Hosting Agreement.
- Be the spouse or partner of a Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor (NCHD) on a Multi-Site General Employment Permit.
- Have been granted permission to reside in Ireland under the Non-EEA Family Reunification Policy.
- Be legally resident in Ireland on a valid Stamp 3.
- Wish to engage in employment in Ireland.
- Be a non-EU/EEA/UK/Swiss national.
Who’s Not Eligible?
This update doesn’t apply to:
- Other family members, such as children or parents, of Employment Permit holders.
- Spouses or partners in Ireland on different types of permission, like visitor or study permits.
- Those who don’t have permission to be in the State.
Summary of Stamp 1G Conditions:
- You can work without needing an employment permit.
- You can take courses of study.
- You cannot establish or operate a business or be self-employed.
- Your Stamp 1G needs to be renewed annually.
- After five years on a Stamp 1G, you may apply for long-term residency.
This is a significant and positive change, making it easier for families to live and work together in Ireland. Stay tuned for more updates and make sure to share this news with anyone who might benefit!
